London's in-market total stands at 678 companies for August 2026, down from 707 the previous month — a fall of 29. The number of hot movers has also eased, from 38 to 31.
Lease events recorded this month reached 395.
What it means: the pool of companies actively signalling a move has thinned slightly month on month, and fewer of those in the market are showing the sharpest urgency. With 395 lease events logged, the underlying churn in the market remains substantial even as the total count contracts — a reminder that this is a rotation as much as a retreat, with some occupiers completing moves and dropping out of the pool as others take their place.
Where the movement is
The City and its fringe remain the dominant submarket by a wide margin, with 233 companies in play, more than the next two areas combined. The West End follows with 158, then Midtown on 78, Southbank and the wider SE postcodes on 70, and the Southwest on 46.
By sector, finance and insurance leads with 150 companies, ahead of tech and software on 98 and legal and consulting on 91. Professional and creative services account for 74, with media and publishing on 46. The spread confirms that occupier demand is broad-based rather than concentrated in a single industry, though the City's pull continues to reflect where finance and legal firms want to be seen.

Shell has confirmed its global energy teams will relocate to a London headquarters in 2027, according to London Daily News.
