SignalBot — our web crawler
If you found this page in your server logs, this is the crawler that visited you, why it did, and how to stop it if you'd rather it didn't.
Who we are
SignalBot is operated by Signal, a trading name of Liam Kurt Smith Limited (company no. 15790837, registered in England & Wales). Signal helps commercial-property and workplace teams understand which London companies may be changing their office. Questions or concerns: hello@officemovesignals.com.
How SignalBot identifies itself
Every request carries this User-Agent string:
SignalBot/1.0 (+https://officemovesignals.com/bot)
What SignalBot looks at
SignalBot visits the public websites of companies we track and reads a small number of pages — typically the homepage plus contact, office-location, careers and news pages (at most about a dozen pages per site). It is looking for what a company says about itself:
- Office locations — the addresses a company publishes on its own contact pages and footers.
- Hiring activity — publicly listed job openings and where they are based.
- Company news — public announcements of office moves, expansions or new openings.
What SignalBot never collects
- No personal data. Names, email addresses, phone numbers and other person-level details are stripped out before any content is processed, and are never stored.
- Nothing behind a login. SignalBot only fetches publicly accessible pages. It never submits forms, never creates accounts and never attempts to access gated content.
- No wholesale copying. We keep short factual extracts (an address, a job title, a quoted sentence from an announcement) with a link to the source page — not copies of your site.
How politely it crawls
- robots.txt is fetched first and obeyed — for every URL, every visit. If your robots.txt disallows us (either
SignalBotspecifically or all crawlers), we don't fetch the page. - Rate-limited to roughly one request every 3–5 seconds per site, with only one connection to your site at a time. A larger
Crawl-delayin your robots.txt is honoured. - Small footprint — a dozen pages at most per site, revisited roughly monthly, and unchanged pages are not re-processed.
Blocking or opting out
To block SignalBot with robots.txt, add:
User-agent: SignalBot
Disallow: /
Or email hello@officemovesignals.com with your domain and we will add it to our permanent opt-out list — no questions asked, typically within two working days. Opted-out domains are never crawled again.
Personal data
SignalBot is designed not to collect personal data. If you believe it has picked something up in error, or you have any data-protection question, contact hello@officemovesignals.com — see also our privacy policy.
